Stretching Your Grocery Dollar....

It is important in a family to stretch your money as far as it will go. For us, food has become a big concern. We have 3 growing boys and a daughter who barely eats. The boys are going to eat us out of house and home!

How can you stretch your money? The first step is to plan your meals. This can be difficult if you have a busy schedule. It is necessary to reduce spending. It eliminates wastes. (tee-hee) The second step is to buy off brand names when possible. Some things are better than others. I admit that. I will not buy veggies in a can. No thank you! For things like cereal, you can go cheaper. Which brings me to the third point. Instead of buying cheap chips and dips you can buy fruits and vegetables. Grapes actually cost less then chips. That will save you a trip to the hospital later on in life. You can also go to your local farmer's market in the summer. This will save you some money. It is also a fun trip for the kiddos. The fourth step is to clip coupons. I don't do this. This is because I don't get the paper. Why buy an entire paper just for the coupons?

These are just things I do. It does help. I also give more choices. For instance, instead of just mac 'n' cheese for lunch I will give them a smaller portion of mac 'n' cheese. With that I will give them grapes and some cookies. This way that box of mac 'n' cheese will go further and they get their fruits. This is an easy trick for every meal.

I haven't figured out how to make a gallon of milk go further. When I do I'll let you know!
